Governments
Lezoli Government
This government is highly militaristic. The police here are trained to be so brutal with criminals - even those as petty as pickpockets - that the government is often referred to as a dictatorship. Due to its harsh nature, and unfeeling brutality toward the "criminals", most, if not all, rebel groups target them, each in their own way. Despite all of this, the population of most the cities and forts is quite high, partially because if you try to emigrate, you are deemed a traitor to your country. Treason is a crime punishable by death.
Government officials tend to put on a mask of kindness when in the presence of guests, even though they know their cruelty is world known. They're also very kind to young children, in a futile attempt to make them more loyal to the government.
Economy-wise, their biggest export is iron, despite many attempts to boycott it. There was an outrage recently when it was discovered the miners were people who refused to serve in the military. It was fueled further by one miner commenting that it was better than the old punishment for not working in the military, of being convicted of treason. It took many smooth words to calm the angered world, but the memory still weighs heavily on the minds of those old enough to remember. Again, despite boycott attempts, their main import is weaponry of all shapes and forms, mainly from their allies, Eolnia.
They are a very rich and powerful nation, overall. Contrasting the brutality, all of the cities are well built, and the homes are often beautiful, all in an attempt to hold onto the respect they are quickly losing in their attempt to crush crime. Fort Stratmouth, their capital, often suffers damage from protesters, though this too has recently died down as protesting was deemed comparible to treason.
Ozehe Government
This government is extremely kind to their citizens, in contrast with the Lezoli government. They were one of the countries that refused to trade with them for a long time, and still withhold as much business as they can. Unfortunately, this caused a crippling effect on the economy. The once number one weaponry resource has now sank into disrepair as their money source is closed off. They have now adjusted their country to take advantage of tourists.
What was once a city of blacksmiths, Habrigham, the capital city, now sell a variety of souvenirs - some more tacky than others. In addition, the king announced a new expectation to go hand in hand with the sudden change of direction - all residents were to be kind, polite and considerate to any and all visitors, in order to make them feel welcome and more likely to spend money.
The royal family is very discreet, and keep to themselves. Many visitors have requested an audience, only to find themselves shooed away by representatives. Politely, of course.
Economy wise, concentration has now landed on what was their secondary trade - fine silk. The source of the silk has long been speculated, as it is stronger and softer than silk from any other land. It is, apparently, difficult to obtain, which means the price is quite high for a sheet of it, and ridiculously high for an outfit.
Due to strikes and general turmoil caused by the rise in unemployed weaponry craftsmen, food production has fallen to an all time low. Thankfully, Ade is more than quick to supply them with a massive amount of grain, and individuals have various other foods imported, if they don't grow it themselves.
Ade Government
Being an unofficial ally of Ozehe has led to Ade being offered discounts on the fine silk, a deal that any other country would accept in the blink of an eye. Unfortunately, Ade is having just as much difficulty financially as Ozehe. Almost a hundred years ago, Ade went to war with Eolnia. Not knowing that they had allied with Lezoli, they entered the war deeply unprepared and have yet to fully recover.
Most of the single city that once covered the entire island was destroyed, leaving two single parts, separated by many miles, to be declared as individual villages. Other ruined parts are now deemed hamlets, but none have any solid name, nor are mapped.
Hawksdone, the capital "city" of Ade is a charming castle surrounded by the more luxurious homes on the island. Once a week, all the inhabitants of Ade attend to a farmers market. This is also the most popular day to visit Ade, as the best deals are available.
Unlike Ozehe, their royal family is easy to gain an audience with, as they are often seen walking around Hawksdone or the surrounding area.
Ade is rather dull compared to the other countries, with their major export being wheat and major import being bricks.
Fyvi Government
This governments hold the rare title of the only government ever created from a single group of rebels. They are constantly quarreling with Lezoli, as the land they now own once belonged to them. They also have conflicting morals, and often fight one another. Rumour has it that they will sponsor any rebel group that will attack Lezoli.
A huge majority of their country is underground, under the school of thought that if it's difficult to access, it's easier to defend. They make great use of Gnolls to do their work for them.
They are a very young country, yet they've already been established as the best source of high quality steel. As they feel threatened by Lezoli, and to a lesser extent, Eolnia, they constantly buy in armour. They are the only country with no major issues.
Eolnia Government
Eolnia is known as a hive of scum. There is no such thing as an innocent resident here, only varying levels of guilt. From thieves to murderers, Eolnia is the reason Lezoli is so harsh on crime in their own country.
The citizens are pretty much left to their own devices while the government works in secret on unknown projects. It isn't even clear which city is their capital, for knowing that would give spies a potential lead. Along with their secrets, they are known for holding, or attempting to at least, competitions. They love to think of themselves as better than everyone else (including their own ally)
People are hesitant to deal with such a secretive, competitive and controversial country. Though they handle less trade than any other country, even Ade, their technology is vastly desired. Only Lezoli will openly trade with them. It's no secret, though, that the only reason they sell any technology is because they've found a way to improve upon it, or make it redundant.
They have few natural resources of their own, though (a situation they are working to solve) so they will buy every kind of ore for a generous price.
Rebel Groups
Hidden Shadows
The Hidden Shadows are an unusual group. While, yes, they are thieves, they also follow a code of honor, with rules such as "don't steal from blind people unless they're from Lezoli.". A fair few members are rumored to be nobles from various countries.
They are more than happy to sell their ill gotten gains to anyone who will pay their prices - usually more than half the market price. They have shown a distinct distaste for Lezoli, targeting them practically daily.
Due to their nature, they have no set uniform. They already have their own hideout, despite being only a few years old. It was clearly designed to impress, with luxurious fittings. This also lends weight to the noble members rumour.
The leader of the Shadows is very elusive, and their appearance changes with every person asked.
Silent Spiders
Easily the most renowned rebel group, the Spiders are also notoriously difficult to get in contact with, which helped them achieve their latest "honor" - not one member has been caught in 50 years. They also show a hatred for Lezoli, but are much more passive aggressive, in either rejecting missions or charging five times the normal rate. When their services are required, however, they always seem to know and will find you.
As one of the older rebel groups, they do have a hideout, much better established than the Hidden Shadows. That said, the exact location is up for debate.
They're distinguishable by the simple fact you will never be able to tell who they are due to masks and hoods.
The Gilded Dawn
The Dawn are bandits, preying on the weakened state of others, preferring Ozehe at the moment. They've helped make the country dwindle in poverty for as long as it has. They're far from honorable, even attacking other rebel groups and those who would otherwise help them. Almost every member is constantly after a fight.
They have many small hideouts, all of which deliberately fashioned to look terrifying. They're very unprofessional, unlike the other rebel groups, and are deemed by the other groups as more of a pest than a genuine threat, though Ozehe residents think otherwise.
They're fond of dramatics, and as such are all required to wear trench coats, under which they could be hiding any number of weapons. It's not very strictly enforced though, as many prefer to go into battle shirtless and coatless.
The Divine Eagles
A unique group, consisting almost entirely of refugees from Lezoli, Fyvi and Eolnia, with a multitude of talents as a result. They keep mostly to theirselves, often hiding entirely from outside contact. They are, however, sworn to protect anyone on the run from Lezoli, Fyvi or Eolnia.
They have no hideout of their own, instead making use of any basement or cellar a kind villager will offer. They're especially welcome at healers.
They are easily identified by the white robes they wear. They are also first in line to give to the needy, and take them into protection.
Midnights Eye
A dark, sinister cult, with crimes that would put any Eolnia criminal to shame. From a single sacrifice, to slaughtering entire villages, blood is key to almost every ritual and rite they perform. No matter how horrific the crime they commit, however, they can not be persecuted, as they have protection - Eolnia fully supports them.
They have reached a point of paranoia where they will not even meet each other in person unless the situation can not be helped. They will instead use enslaved spirits to speak on their behalf.
