The dawn had just barely arrived when a surge of activity swept through the academy. A trio of men, dressed clearly to impress, walked down the long pathway toward the school.
They were led by a young man, dressed in borderline luxurious clothes, and though he was very attractive, he had an unpleasant air about him. The other two were clearly bodyguards, with thick armour and swords hanging from their hips. They kept a surprising distance from their leader, clearly not fond of him.
Almost as quickly as the activity had began, it subsided as they were led into a quiet room.
Mere moments later, a pleasant womans voice echoed throughout the academy.
"We have a mission, ladies and gentlemen. Please come to the main hall if you're interested,"
((I suck with intro threads. There are NPC students too but let's ignore them XP))

]"We have a mission, ladies and gentlemen. Please come to the main hall if you're interested."
The voice echoed loudly through the various halls of the Academy, and was made even louder by the previous silence in the library. Katrina looked up, pushing her hair out of her eyes.
A mission... That might be fun helpful. I don't go on many, anyway... I need to, eventually..
Kat pushed her chair out and closed the book she had been reading, Fizzleburt's Theorums on Restraining Bolts, as she rose. It had some interesting ideas, but was rather dry. Waking up early to find it hadn't helped, either.
She put the book back on the shelf she had found it on, and headed out of the library. It was on the top floor of the eastern building of the Academy, that was dedicated to training. Outside the library room, which took up the entire top floor but for a hallway winding around it that had staircases leading down, the building was plain stone. Inside, carpeting and dusty bookshelves filled the room.
She didn't see anybody on the way down to the hall. Either everybody was already there, or nobody was interested in going.
There were narrow stone pathways between the buildings, with flowers and grasses on either side. Still, there was nobody there.
When Kat pushed open the door to the main building, a solid wave of sound poured out, hundreds or thousands of people clamoring to know what the new mission was.
Apparently, everybody was already there.
She was about to sneak in when a soft voice came from behind her.
"Miss Katrina?"
Kat turned, skirt swishing, to face the woman behind her. Brown hair, brown eyes, a slightly pouty mouth, but otherwise perfectly normal. She had the clothes that the secretaries of the Academy had to wear.
"Excuse me, but Madame Truffle has sent me to inform you there's a special mission in ready for you."
"Special mission?"
"It has to do with a... special... student here. Madame Truffle believes you may be able to help him while on a normal mission."
"Er... "Special"?" Katrina said, embarrased.
"Oh, no, no, no! He's just... not very good at academics. Well, shall we go?"
The secretary led her through the crowds, to a small office half-hidden in the wall. Inside, there was a tall man, about her age, with blonde hair and black clothes.
~~~
OoC: Yes. Kat can actually think in strike-through text. She's just that awesome.
Kuto stepped out of the exam room, having been sure he had botched the exam again. He stepped out into the main hall, feeling a bit depressed. Suddenly, a voice boomed over the speakers.
"We have a mission, ladies and gentlemen. Please come to the main hall if you're interested."
Kuto examined the area around him. It seemed he was already in the main hall. A woman came out of a door Kuto had never noticed before. The woman came up to him and began speaking.
"Excuse me, Kuto...Irtore? Please come with me."
"Um... Alright." Kuto responded.
They began walking towards the same door that the girl had come out of before. They entered, coming into a small office area.
"Please wait here." The girl said.
Moments later, another girl appeared, this one wearing loads of strange jewelry.
"Uh... Hey."
The girl seemed to ignore Kuto. A few seconds later, the secretary had come back, holding a piece of paper.
"So, here's the deal," She began.
"Mr. Irtore, your grades are failing. Within the year, you are going to flunk out,"
Kuto's eyes widened a bit, rather shocked. He had seen it coming, though, his grades haven't been withstanding ever since he joined the school.
"However. Miss Truffle has decided to give you a second chance, on one condition. There have been monster sightings near the school. They've been attacking passersby and stealing supplies. Your mission is to eliminate them. If you succeed in the mission, we'll give you another chance in this institution."
Kuto breathed a sigh of relief.
"And you, Miss Illiaros, your grades, unlike his, have been near perfect. You are to go with him and evaluate him."
"And you, Miss Illiaros, your grades, unlike his, have been near perfect. You are to go with him and evaluate him."
Several things started to go through Katrina's mind at once.
One was: They think high enough of me to supervise him... I'm not sure whether to take that as an insult or a compliment...
Another was: He's actually failing...? I didn't even know that was possible...
The third was: He looks...strong like a muscle-bound moron. Honestly, why wear greaves in plain sight? He doesn't even have a weapon...
But over it all, Kat nodded to the secretary and pulled the surprised man outside, into the press of the students who were still waiting to hear of the mission.
"Do you have to go and pick up any equipment? A weapon or something?" Kat asked, and he nodded. He rushed off, probably towards his room.
Instead of waiting, she went back inside, and found the room empty. "U-um... Where did you go, miss?"
"I'm right here, miss Iliaros!"
Kat nearly jumped out of her skin, whirling around to find the secretary somehow behind her. "How did you do that?!" she demanded.
"We have our ways..."
"...Right..." What a nutcase eccentric person. "Excuse me, but is there any information on what the monsters might be? Where they were last seen?"
"They seem to be only a pack of Goblins, though it's a bit strange for them to be acting so smart. But they were last seen a little bit south of here..."
"Thank you."
Kat retreated from the disturbing secretary, and was jostled out of the doorway by the crowd, but managed to slip out the front door and wait for the man she was going to have to shepherd all day.
Within a few minutes, he reappeared, with a pair of gauntlets and a suit of chain-mail. When she asked if he had any weapons, he nodded and lifted his gauntleted fists.
It was going to be a long day.
They introduced themselves on the trek. His name was Kuto, apparently.
It was hours before they found where the Goblins had camped out. A tall cliff sheltered their camp from the blazing sun, and one of the few streams on the island trickled down it.
"Your turn. It looks like there are... Fourteen or so. A surprisingly small group to have no leader... I won't step in if it won't threaten your life, though, so be careful." Kat told him.
Kuto took off towards the Goblins, with her watching him.
[glow=red,2,300]"Why, what do we have here..."[/glow] said a voice behind her.
Tanya didn't look up from her book as the message sounded across the academy. Instead she finsihed the page, replaced the bookmark, put the book down, then looked around. Outside her window a few people were already hurrying across the grounds, and she could hear other people leaving their rooms. Frowning slightly, she left her desk and got her staff from the corner, letting it clip into the holster on her shoulderblade. Looking around the room to check nothing would explode while she was gone, Tanya walked out into the hallway. The hallways were busy, as always, with academy members all going about their business - some of whom nodded or smiled at Tanya as she passed. Tanya, returning the greetings absent-mindedly, thought about what the mission could be. There had been hardly any hints of unusual unrest recently. The grand hall was only a short walk from the rooms, so others were still arriving by the time Tanya got there. Choosing an inconspicuous spot to loiter in, she waited to hear what the mission was. ~~~ (Sorry - not much I can think of saying until the mission is explained)
Shayna heard the announcement and sighed. She had a feeling this was part of some conspiracy to make her walk as much as possible. She limped out of her room, leaving it twice as messy as usual, and down the corridors. She frowned slightly occasionally, as people offered her help. She felt like screaming at them - no, I don't need help! She kept quiet, completely ignoring them instead. When she finally made it to the main hall, she took a seat on the stairs, grumbling to herself.
~~~
As the students began to calm down, the doors from the balcony office swung open and the same unpleasant man stepped out. He surveyed the students, clearly filled with disappointment.
"These are our choices?" he whispered to a familiar woman. "Well, if Ade were to actually send us new students without kicking up such a fuss, I'm sure you'd find the choice would be wider," Amanda Truffle chuckled, before stepping forward.
"Ah, so nice to see so many turn up, I haven't even said what we need doing yet," she sang cheerfully. "For all you know, we could be cleaning sewers!"
The man tutted, earning him a slight frown from the normally smiling woman.
"We're going to be doing a little job--- okay, a rather large job for this gentleman," she announced, clearly irritated when he tutted at the word 'little'. "Anyone who doesn't feel ready for combat, I encourage you to leave now, as it is quite a serious issue they're facing. We'll only need a few of you, and I'm sure Aloten can find a bit of work for the rest of you," she explained.

"Alright, let's do this."
Kuto took a fighting stance, holding his hands in front of his chest area. One Goblin stepped forward, apparently underestimating Kuto. The Goblin neared, and Kuto's fist went flying.
Thunk!
Kuto punched the Goblins head off, apparently enraging a few other of his friends. Two more stepped forward. When they got close enough, they swung their clubs at Kuto's head. He quickly ducked, making them miss. He followed it up with two uppercuts to their chins. The two green monstrosities fell to the ground, limp.
This time, four more came. Two had clubs, the others with short swords and wooden shields. Kuto lunged at one of the Goblins with the swords and shield. The Goblin held its shield in front of him. Kuto punched straight through the shield, smashing it and killing the Goblin.
One of the club Goblins lunged at Kuto. Kuto did a quick round house kick, Chuck Norris style. The other two Goblins tried using better tactics. They both got on either end of Kuto and began running towards him. The Goblin with the sword was holding it straight forward, which gave Kuto an idea.
The Goblins neared, and he ducked. The Goblin with the sword stabbed the one with the club in the throat, killing it. He finished off the other one with a few quick punches to the chest.
The rest of the Goblins attacked, seven in all. Each of them had a clubs, and were ready to kill Kuto. They begun to attack. Kuto and the Goblins both attacked. One Goblin swung his club, but Kuto grabbed it, and took hold of it. He threw the club at another Goblin, disposing of that one, and quickly took out the one he took the club from.
The other five all attacked at once. The first to swing was the most unfortunate; its club grabbed, and followed up by a punch to the face. The other Goblins swung at him, and he narrowly avoided being hit by rolling away. This distracted them for a moment, which allowed him to take out another one with a punch to the back.
The other three seemed to cower a bit. The feebly held their weapons and began to swing at him, but before it even got close, Kuto killed it. The other too, fearful, tried to run. Before they could, Kuto grabbed both of them by the neck and smashed their heads together.
And they were gone. Kuto sat down, wiping the blood off of his armor and weapons.
"Not bad, eh, Kat?"

Katrina spun around, her skirt swirling wide around her feet and her bracelets clanking against their chains. "Who are you?!" she demanded.
[glow=red,2,300]"Hahaha! Foolish girl! I am Ifrit! Master of Flames! Render of the Earth! Championship winning bodybuilder!"[/glow] The... creature... behind her was massive. Shoulders nearly as wide as the doors of the Academy, rippling with muscles. Two massively muscled arms, with huge golden bracelets, hung to the ground, while he had stunted legs and a loincloth.
And he had flames for hair.
Literally.
"Okay, let me rephrase that. What are you?"
[glow=red,2,300]"I already told you! I am Ifrit! The Master of Flames! The Render of the Earth! ...Oh! You meant species... Er... I'm a Ghost. Oooh. Fear me." [/glow]
"...What?"
[glow=red,2,300]"It was a joke."[/glow]
"...What is wrong with you?"
[glow=red,2,300]"I was on steroids when I was alive. What do you exp- Ooh! Shiny!"[/glow]
"What is?!"
Ifrit was looking at the bracelet on her right hand. The Sapphire-and-ruby one. A massive hand snaked out, and a huge black claw pulled the cage of wires away from the chain.
"Hey! That was from my mother!"
[glow=red,2,300]"Shiny..."[/glow]
Ifrit held the intricate jewelry up to the light, examine it. Then his claw slipped, crushing the precious piece and shattering it into dozens of tiny pieces.
Katrina's eyes began to glow bright blue. Ifrit leaned down in front of her.
[glow=red,2,300]"Er? Hello? Are you okay? I'm sorry about breaking your jew-[/glow]
In her left hand, a sphere of green energy appeared. Her wrist flicked to one side, and it slowly began to turn white-blue.
It's like... A flood of ice coldness running through my veins...
The sphere turned completely blue-white, and she felt her army calmly raise and smash it into Ifrit's open mouth. It exploded, freezing his mouth shut.
[glow=red,2,300]Mmph! Mmph! Mmmph![/glow]
Katrina pulled her hand away, another sphere forming in each hand and turning white. Ifrit's eyes widened, and he started to mimic her action and leap back at the same time.
Katrina threw the orbs as he started floating downwards, spheres of fire in his huge hands. The ice-spheres hit the ground directly under him, one exploding in a hollow column of ice that encased the Ghost, and the other floating upwards and then exploding into shards of ice that bounced off the walls of the tube, smashing into his vulnerable face countless times.
Just before he was trapped, though, Ifrit tossed his orbs at her. They exploded in a great spray of flames and dirt, tossing her through the air, unconscious, as he disappeared into a burst of flames.

OoC: >.> Two new magics in this post. Iceblast and Winterfall I, in order. When a piece of jewelry is broken, specifically the wires and gem, it opens a new elementary tree. But I have the next one planned out, and it won't be happening for a pretty long time.

Tanya watched the man intently, trying to figure out why he seemed so annoyed. When she heard the warning, she half considered turning to leave, but curiosity kept her in place. She could always duck out at a later point, depending on the mission.

((Ok, make sure you add 'em onto your profile and make sure you don't get more for a while )) "Leatolus will now explain," Amanda eventually sighed, having him tell her off for several moments. "Yes, because I don't have a title," he muttered, stepping forward. He surveyed the crowd for a moment before beginning. "Most of you are too useless for what I need. If any of you have any actual skill, little though it may be, those are the ones I want," he said loudly, arms crossed. "So you girls standing over there giggling, leave. And you, don't think I didn't see that gesture. Out," he suddenly snapped, after a moments pause, pointing first to a group of young girls who stormed off, then to a defiant boy, who repeated his gesture before leaving. "Right. This is important, so --- stop giggling, leave! --- I'm going to need warriors more mature than it seems exist here," he continued, brushing his blonde hair back, clearly getting more and more frustrated. "Goblins have set up a pair of lairs near the mountains in Ade. Anyone who can stop giggling long enough to fight, you can stay. Everyone else, leave," he finished, glaring at the audience.

Kuto held his hands over his face, blocking the dirt that came flying from the orbs. After the explosion had stopped sending dirt and fire towards him, he stood up and walked towards Katrina, who was unconscious on the ground.
"Ugh. Damnit. Just my luck."
He picked her up off the ground, wiping some dirt off of her face. He began walking back towards the Academy.
Several hours later, Kuto arrived at the Academy and opened the large door. He walked into the main hall, seeing a few secretaries, like the one before, eyeing him. Other than them, no one else was in the main hall.
The secretaries began to swarm them both, asking questions as to what happened. Kuto tried to ignore them and began walking towards the Western building; the Infirmary.
A few minutes, and many annoying questions, later, he arrived. He called for a nurse/cleric (whichever one. >_>) and one came almost immediately.
"Oh my! What happened?" The nurse said.
"I don't know. We were on a mission and I was fighting Goblins, and when I finished fighting them, there was an explosion. When it was dissipated, Katrina was unconscious."
"Oh... Well, bring her here. I'll take her."
Kuto gave Katrina over to the nurse, found a chair, and sat down.

(If the main hall is empty, are you guys arriving after we've set off or something? I'm confused...) (If you are talking about after we've left, are you going to wait for us to catch up to you? otherwise we'll always been out of sync =p)
Tanya grinned slightly but held back any laughter. This man was clearly very arrogant, and hopefully that meant he was rich. Tanya considered leaving - working for people like that could be annoying - but the chance to show some rich snob that the academy did hold some talent was worth it. She watched as some of the others left, privatly glad that some of the more boisterous and harder-to-work-with people had been kicked out. As she heard mention of the goblins, her expression turned to one of cacluation. Two mountain lairs. Not the easiest place for a human to fight, but it wouldn't be too hard. She felt like telling the man to hurry up, but Tanya knew that would only get her removed very quickly. Standing almost-meekly in the corner, Tanya waited for the man to finally select some students for the mission, though for all she knew it might take days....

OoC: This is partly "Alien has fun with those buttons at the top of the screen", and partly serious post. It was really fun to write, though. >.> ~~~ A thick, white mist shrouded the entire area. The moisture soaked into Katrina's clothes, and made her feel soggy all over. She couldn't see more than a few feet in any direction. [glow=green,9,300] [shadow=yellow,right,1,000][/shadow][/glow] The voice seemed to move, first coming from the right and then the left. "Who's there? What do you want? And, at that, where is 'here'?" Kat tried to conjure a sphere of energy. Most unpleasantly, nothing happened. [glow=blue,9,300] [shadow=white,left,1,000]Here? It's... Confusing. [/shadow][/glow] [glow=red,9,300] [shadow=white,left,1,000]But that doesn't matter... [/shadow][/glow] "Uh... I would say that it does." [glow=black,9,300] [shadow=black,left,1,000]Then you understand nothing! [/shadow][/glow][/size] A clump of black mist began to solidify directly in front. Kat twitched. "Er, a clump of black mist?" How scary... Perhaps they'll cliche me to death.[glow=black,9,300] [shadow=black,left,1,000]Enough! If she must be present, let her do so silently! [/shadow][/glow] Kat found she couldn't talk. It was like there was an invisible gag in it. Not a very comfortable one, either. Far to the left, a flame appeared, eating at the mist. It seemed to be a losing battle, though... [glow=red,9,300] [shadow=white,left,1,000]Even the power of Fire cannot win alone... [/shadow][/glow] Far to the right, a blue flame appeared, also licking violently at the mist. Even with two flames, the mist seemed overwhelming. [glow=blue,9,300] [shadow=white,left,1,000]Even Ice and Fire cannot win the war, mighty as they are... [/shadow][/glow] There was silence. And then, [glow=black,9,300] [shadow=black,left,1,000]What the bloody 'ell. Mysterious Blue Voice, you said they were all awoken! Why the devil aren't these last three mysterious torches lit yet? [/shadow][/glow][/size] [glow=blue,9,300] [shadow=white,left,1,000]Well then, it's your fault, isn't it? I mean, we all know how missus fruity up there putzed it up... [/shadow][/glow] [glow=black,9,300] [shadow=black,left,1,000]Finally, somebody who isn't a total moron! Let's just go with that. [/shadow][/glow][/size] ~ The sunlight in the clinic was blindingly sharp as Kat opened her eyes. She tried to lift her arm to push aside the sheets, and found she couldn't. "What's... going on?" she mumbled.

((I take it you're not coming, Jiin?))
Eventually, the crowd was reduced to a mere handful, as Leatolus inspected each person and dismissed them. He finally came to Tanya and crossed his arms. "Right, your turn. What, exactly, can you contribute to the assault?" he sighed, clearly uninterested.
--
Jennon snapped to attention as Katrina woke up. He hurried over and smiled nervously. "H-hi, you're awake, that's good..." he began, his voice quickly fading and he continued to murmur to himself. He was clearly stressed, and way out of his depth.
